What fits into one night
The honest framing for a 2D1N is that it is a compressed version of the standard route rather than a shorter, gentler one. You still sail from Labuan Bajo, still sleep at anchor inside the park, and still climb Padar in the dark. What you lose is the slack: fewer stops, shorter stops, and no room for a site to be moved if the weather turns.
That trade is worth making for a specific kind of traveller. If Komodo is a two-night add-on to a Bali holiday, if you have one weekend, or if someone in the party wants to test their sea legs before committing to a longer sailing, the overnight route delivers the park’s signature images without asking for a week.

On a charter the order can shift – some groups prefer Rinca’s Loh Buaya station for dragons because it is usually quieter, and some skip Manjarite to spend longer at Kelor. What cannot shift is the sunrise, the ranger station’s opening hours or the tide.

Manta Point is the loss that stings. It is the single stop most guests name as the highlight of the trip, and it needs the second full day. If mantas are why you are coming, book the 3D2N route instead and treat the extra USD 2,550 on the charter rate as the cost of the channel.
Who should book it, and who should not
Book 2D1N if your flights only allow two days on Flores, you are adding Komodo to a Bali itinerary, you want the Padar and dragon photographs above everything else, or you are travelling with someone unsure about sleeping on a boat.
Do not book it if you dive – there is no room for a proper dive day – if mantas are the point of the trip, if you are a photographer who wants both sunrise and sunset light on the water, or if you are travelling between December and March when a single weather call can remove a third of a two-day itinerary. Making the flights work
Komodo Airport (LBJ) sits at the edge of Labuan Bajo, roughly ten minutes from the harbour. Flights from Bali (DPS) take about one to one and a half hours; from Jakarta (CGK) it is around two and a half to three hours, often with a stop.
For a 2D1N to work, arrive on a morning flight on day one, or better, fly in the evening before and sleep in Labuan Bajo. Departure on day two is comfortable from mid-afternoon onwards. Booking a midday departure flight on day two is the mistake we see most often – it forces the dragon trek to be shortened or dropped. On park fees, we would rather be accurate than convenient.
Komodo National Park charges are billed as separate components – an entrance ticket that differs for
foreign and domestic visitors and rises on Sundays and public holidays, a ranger or trekking fee usually
charged per ranger per group, a snorkelling fee per person per day, a higher diving fee per diver per day,
a conservation and insurance levy, a harbour fee, and camera or drone permits. Traveller and operator
reports through 2025 cluster around IDR 250,000–350,000 per person per day for the combined park
charges on a liveaboard, plus a port fee of roughly IDR 25,000–50,000; one documented 2025 liveaboard
account came to about IDR 275,000 per day plus a IDR 25,000 port fee. Those are reported figures,
not an official published tariff, they are paid in cash in rupiah on site, and the park authority can change

How steep is the Padar hike?
Short but genuinely steep, on steps and loose ground, done in the dark before sunrise. Proper trainers are needed; sandals are not enough.
