The airport is a short drive from town and the harbour. Our strong recommendation is to fly in the day before departure. Same-day arrivals work when the flight lands in the morning, but a single delay out of Denpasar can cost you the first two stops, and there is no way to catch a boat that has already sailed.
Embarkation and what to bring aboard
Pick-up and drop-off on the Labuan Bajo mainland are included in every rate. Bring a soft bag rather than a hard case if you can – cabins have storage but not unlimited floor space. Leave anything you will not need at your hotel; most Labuan Bajo hotels will hold luggage for guests returning after a cruise.
Pack reef-safe high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and light long sleeves; sandals or reef shoes for wet landings plus proper trainers for Padar and the dragon trek; a light jacket for windy evenings; swimwear and a rash guard; a reusable bottle, insect repellent and a small daypack; a power bank and a dry bag for cameras; motion-sickness medication; and cash in rupiah for park fees.

Park fees, permits and the dragon stations
Komodo dragons remain viewable at both Komodo Island’s Loh Liang station and Rinca Island’s Loh Buaya station as of 2026, always on a ranger-guided trail. Rinca is generally the quieter of the two and its boardwalk has been renovated. Standard tourist access to Padar, Komodo and Rinca via guided treks is operating; there has been long-running public discussion of visitor caps and premium passes, but no widely implemented hard cap is documented, so treat anything you read about closures as a discussion rather than a rule until the authority publishes otherwise.

Komodo National Park charges are billed as separate components – an entrance ticket that differs for
foreign and domestic visitors and rises on Sundays and public holidays, a ranger or trekking fee usually
charged per ranger per group, a snorkelling fee per person per day, a higher diving fee per diver per day,
a conservation and insurance levy, a harbour fee, and camera or drone permits. Traveller and operator
reports through 2025 cluster around IDR 250,000–350,000 per person per day for the combined park
charges on a liveaboard, plus a port fee of roughly IDR 25,000–50,000; one documented 2025 liveaboard
account came to about IDR 275,000 per day plus a IDR 25,000 port fee. Those are reported figures,
not an official published tariff, they are paid in cash in rupiah on site, and the park authority can change
them at any time. Ask our reservations team for the current amounts before you travel.
Booking, and what we need from you
Send four things and we can quote properly: your travel dates or window, the number of guests, whether anyone dives and at what certification level, and any dietary requirements. We come back with availability, cabin options and a written quote. A deposit converts a provisional date hold into a confirmed booking, with the balance due before departure. Weather calls belong to the captain. Between December and March, and occasionally in the windy peak of the dry season, a route gets adjusted – a sheltered site substituted for an exposed one, a southern leg dropped. We would rather change a stop than push a 40-metre wooden hull into a sea state it should not be in. Cancellation and amendment terms vary by season and lead time and are issued in writing with your quote.
When to come
June to September is dry, sunny and busiest, with strong wind and current and visibility often in the 20–30 metre band. April to May and October to November are the shoulder months: green islands, fewer boats, and shared trips commonly discounted. December to March brings rain, rougher seas and some cancellations, with a demand spike over Christmas and New Year. Reef mantas are seen at Karang Makassar through most of the year when currents run; the southern sites peak roughly October to December.
